Episode 5
#5: Has Society Abandoned the Concept of Privacy?
This episode is all about a question I think more people should be asking: do we even value privacy anymore? With how much people share on social media, it really seems like we don’t. You see people posting every little detail of their lives, and it makes you wonder if we’ve stopped thinking about what we’re giving up. We talk about how this shift happened and what it means. It’s so easy to share now that most people don’t stop to think about the long-term impact. I truly believe we need to be more intentional about what we put out there, because privacy still matters, even if it doesn’t feel like it in today’s world.

Today we're going to talk about if people still value privacy.
Speaker A:You tell me.
Speaker A:You see people on social media, day in and day out, posting every single part about their life.
Speaker A:Oh, I just went to the bathroom.
Speaker A:Oh, I just cooked some food.
Speaker A:Oh, I just got married.
Speaker A:Oh, I just got a dog.
Speaker A:And people on social media, they're gonna always post the best parts of their life.
Speaker A:Of course they're not gonna post the hard times unless they want the support.
Speaker A:It's completely different than what has happened at any time in humanity.
Speaker A:When have we been able to share our lives with so many people around the world?
Speaker A:This is crazy that our brains understand this, really know the implications of how much we are sharing.
Speaker A:What happened to privacy?
Speaker A:Why doesn't it matter anymore?
Speaker A:I don't see it.
Speaker A:I don't.
Speaker A:I think that society has lost value in their own privacy.
Speaker A:And I think that it's not even just about social media.
Speaker A:It's about what we're sharing.
Speaker A:How easy it is just to say, oh yeah, let me just sign this away.
Speaker A:At least I'll be a part of the email and who reads the policy and procedures?
Speaker A:How much of our data is being shared?
Speaker A:How many cookies do you disable or enable to track you?
Speaker A:Where is cyber security at right now?
Speaker A:At an all time high or an all time low?
Speaker A:Your privacy is not there.
Speaker A:It might have been something in the past when we were writing down things and just living life in a way that was slower paced.
Speaker A:It might have been at that point you have something on a piece of paper, you write on the piece of paper, you send the piece of paper in a letter.
Speaker A:How safe is that?
Speaker A:Old school privacy?
Speaker A:That's exactly what it is.
Speaker A:The old era are letters.
Speaker A:What do you think has more privacy?
Speaker A:Your data is being monetized.
Speaker A:Just think, think about what you want to share with the world.
Speaker A:Just because everyone on Facebook wants to share their life doesn't mean you have to.
Speaker A:Privacy is okay.
Speaker A:Privacy is good.
Speaker A:It used to be a thing.
Speaker A:You don't need to post.
Speaker A:You don't your whole life on Facebook or Instagram or YouTube.
Speaker A:Be yourself.
Speaker A:And to be yourself, you don't have to show yourself to every single person that you've ever met.
Speaker A:It's kind of nice if you don't have social media because when you talk to somebody and you catch up, you don't already know all the big events they get to.
Speaker A:It gets to be a surprise when they tell you, I don't think people value privacy anymore the way they used to.
Speaker A:I think that now is probably the least value of privacy ever.
Speaker A:You can do little things today to make a difference.
Speaker A:VPNs are a way you could do this using encrypted tools to communicate.
Speaker A:It's probably not gonna happen.
Speaker A:It's up to you.
Speaker A:But yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, there's not.
Speaker A:It's not our choice.
Speaker A:There's facial recognition technology.
Speaker A:What do you think about privacy?
Speaker A:Do you think that we lost value in it?
Speaker A:I do.
Speaker A:Discuss in some of the comments what you think about it, and if you like what we talked about today, go ahead and subscribe and have a great day.
